Another crack in the (energy) wall
Oilprice.com is reporting that that the US shale boom is over and that OPEC is once again the world’s swing producer (for oil). Leaving aside that OPEC itself may have problems increasing its output by very much, this news is based in part on a report by Enverus and they note that not only are there economic and policy reasons for a flattening of growth, but also there is reduced performance from recent Permian wells. If that reduced performance persists, it will be quite signifificant since the Permian Basin is the largest oil producer in the US and until recently has been responsible for much of the growth in output.
On the other hand, Enverus says:
U.S. natural gas supply growth has surprised on the upside, touching 100 Bcf/d sooner than anticipated. EIR now expects strong growth for 2022 at ~3.4 Bcf/d E/E.
